Volcanoids là game sinh tồn xây dựng thế giới mở với góc nhìn thứ nhất, bối cảnh đặt trong kỷ nguyên hơi nước nơi con người và công nghệ hòa làm một. Khám phá hòn đảo núi lửa, vận hành những chiếc máy khoan khổng lồ và đợt núi lửa phun trào do sinh vật cơ khí tạo ra.

Với bối cảnh kỷ nguyên hơi nước, người chơi Volcanoids PC sẽ tham gia vào chuyến phiêu lưu kỳ thú đến hòn đảo hoang mà bạn gọi là nhà. Nhưng những đợt núi lửa phun trào do sinh vật cơ khí gây ra đã biến vùng đất kỳ diệu này trở thành khu vực hoang hóa, nhuốm màu tận thế. Để sống sót trong điều kiện tự nhiên khắc nghiệt này, bạn phải đánh bại các sinh vật máy móc và thu hồi mũi khoan của chúng. Sử dụng chính công nghệ của kẻ thù để nâng cấp máy móc và giải cứu quê hương trong Volcanoids.

Không giống các trò chơi sinh tồn kiểu Minecraft, nơi chúng ta chỉ chặt cây, xây nhà và lặp đi lặp lại những hoạt động quen thuộc này, với game Volcanoids, bạn sẽ có 1 hành trình sinh tồn sinh động hơn rất nhiều. Nơi trú ngụ sẽ được vận hành bởi mũi khoan khổng lồ do chính bạn điều khiển. Căn cứ vừa là nhà, dây chuyền sản xuất và vận chuyển - tất cả trong cùng 1 vị trí.

Mặc dù phần hướng dẫn ở đầu game Volcanoids hơi chung chung nhưng bạn sẽ nhanh chóng tiếp cận những phần chơi thú vị hơn. Rất nhanh sau đó bạn có thể ra lệnh cho chiếc máy khoan của mình và cùng nó chinh phục thế giới mới.

Hiện tại, Volcanoids game chỉ hỗ trợ chơi đơn nhưng trong thời gian tới, chế độ Co-op và PvP sẽ được bổ sung. Rất nhiều vũ khí mới, hiệu ứng phun trào núi lửa chân thực hơn, các bộ giáp đặc biệt, hệ thống nghiên cứu và công nghệ mới… sẽ được nhà phát hành cân nhắc và đưa vào phiên bản kế tiếp. Dù sao, Volcanoids cũng mới ở giai đoạn Early Access và cần thêm thời gian để hoàn thiện.
